J “SCHOOL OF ILL” MANNING
Jay Manning is a music enthusiast and host of Music for Breakfast. His love for music started at a very early age as he spent most of his childhood in Chicago, admiring and studying the art of hip-hop and rap. This Southside representative began interning at his hometown radio station Power 92, learning the basics of radio first hand. He spent five years working and learning from Lisa E, Leon Rodgers, Rocsi Diaz and Rico Rodriguez, trailblazers in Chicago radio.
While in college at SIU, Jay became heavily involved in party promotion utilizing his growing network to bring major Chicago DJs such as DJ Pharris and Sean Mac and DJ Nehpets to homecoming events. Helping a friend record and work a mixtape introduced Jay to a completely different side of music that he immediately fell in love with. This propelled him towards working in artist management and transferring to MTSU where he majored in Music Business. Jay was able to work on his artist demo with and get advice from highly respected Grammy-Award winning producers such as Teddy Bishop, Shannon Sanders and Rockwilder. During this time Jay was interning for Interscope, Grammy University, and John Monopoly’s Hustle Period. Enabling Jay to work on promotional projects for Hustle Period’s clients including Kanye West, Shawnna, Naledge, GLC, Carl Thomas, and producer No I.D.; these internships were integral to his development and understanding of the music industry.
After college Jay continued doing event promotions and while working at Interscope Records he started Hybrid Entertainment to market and promote artist’s album releases in popular Chicago nightclubs. This allowed him to promote projects from such artists as 50 Cent, Kanye West, Eve, Common, and The Game. Applying his knowledge and experience gained over the years, Jay ventured into Indie-artist management, launching a 6 Stop multi-city mini tour for his artist, Pule, as well as executive producing his successful debut LP. Since, Jay has gone on to launch his Pro-Black clothing line, Collector Culture, and The Goodfoot Project, which focuses on giving back and improving the underprivileged community. As a Music IV Breakfast host, Jay looks forward to cementing himself in the industry he initially fell in love with.
